The Competitions and Tariff Commission (CTC) has held talks with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe seeking clarity on Econet's mobile money business, which has been the subject of an investigation in recent months.
According to the Herald, the Authority also met the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) on Econet's alleged uncompetitive practices.
In 2014, the CTC invited South Africa-based competition experts to investigate whether Econet flouted competition laws in its money transfer scheme.
After the SA experts produced their findings, the commission engaged the RBZ and Potraz as regulators of banks and mobile operators to better understand the regulatory issues around the mobile money business, CTC assistant director (Competition) Benjamin Chinhengo told The Herald. Both parties agreed to work on the findings of the investigation.
