German Director for Sub-Saharan Africa to visit Zimbabwe

The Director General for Sub-Saharan Africa and Sahel of the German Federal Foreign Office, Ambassador Georg Schmidt will visit Zimbabwe from tomorrow (23 March) to March 24 to meet government of Zimbabwe officials, it has been learnt.

Embassy of the Federal of Republic of Germany announced through a statement today.

Schmidt will meet members of the Zimbabwean Government, Parliament and Judiciary as well as representatives of civil society institutions.

"Ambassador Schmidt's visit coincides with the conference "Assessing Progress on the Implementation of Zimbabwe's New Constitution: National, Regional and Global Perspectives" which is organized by the Max-Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law (MPFDPR), Germany, in collaboration with the Development and Rule of Law Programme (DROP) at the Faculty of Law, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa and the Southern African Political Economy Series (SAPES) Trust, Harare, Zimbabwe. The conference is supported by the German Federal Foreign Office," reads the statement.

Ambassador Schmidt will address the public forum at the end of the conference on Tuesday 24th March at 5pm including some remarks on the current state and perspectives of bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Germany (Conference venue: SAPES Trust, 4 Deary Avenue, Belgravia).

"Media representatives will have the opportunity to get interviews with Ambassador Schmidt at the margin of the conference," reads the statement.
