Arnold Schwarzenegger has changed his position on a divorce petition filed by his estranged wife Maria Shriver and agreed to pay her spousal support, local media reported on Tuesday.

The actor-turned-politician, in an amended response to the case on Monday, withdrew his initial request that the court not award the support to Shriver, his wife of more than 25 years. He also agreed to pay attorney and related legal costs by himself.

Schwarzenegger, 63, did not explain why he changed his stance on the matter, but said the fees should be paid jointly in a request filed last week.

Shriver filed for divorce with her husband on July 1 after Schwarzenegger admitted that he fathered a son out of wedlock 14 years ago with his long-time housekeeper. She requested support and all the fees and costs should be paid by Schwarzenegger.

The couple released a joint statement regarding their youngest son's recovery last week, saying that Christopher Schwarzenegger "is surrounded by his family and friends. He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery."

The 13-year-old boy was released from a hospital late Monday after he had been put in intensive care. He suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung as he took a bad spill off a boogie board in Malibu on July 17.
