South African musicians Ringo Madlingozi and Winnie Khumalo gig in Harare on Friday hangs in the balance after it emerged that organisers of the Green Concert are not registered with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.
The show is set for 7 Arts Theatre.
The Green Concert organising team led by musician Dereck Mpofu is not registered with the arts council, making it illegal for them to hold the concert.
NACZ communications officer Cathrine Mtombeni said they will not tolerate unregistered promoters.
"The issue of Green Concert is being covered by the following terms:
"Organisers of any concert in Zimbabwe have to be registered as provided in the quoted statutes. It is critical to mention that such an act is deemed illegal according to SI 87 of 2006 Part II Paragraph 4 that say; "No arts organisation shall operate in terms of these regulations without being registered," said Mtombeni.
"Should one be caught promoting without a valid NACZ licence, Part VI Paragraph 14 of the same SI says; "Any person who contravenes any provision of these regulations shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine not exceeding Level 14 or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years or to both such fine and such imprisonment," she said.
