A South African man from the Limpopo province is on the run after allegedly shooting his son to death and taking part with three of his employees in gang raping his wife.
The son was shot and killed after he allegedly caught them in the act.
The men had allegedly been taking turns raping his mother who was tied to a bed in his father's bedroom.
Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Hangwane Mulaudzi said the police were investigating the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man and the gang rape of his mother at Modimolle (formerly Nylstroom).
Mulaudzi said the horrific incident was allegedly perpetrated by her estranged husband who is on the run and three of his workers.
"According to our charge sheet the husband confronted his estranged wife with a .22-rifle at her house on Tuesday at about 5pm accompanied by his three employees.
The self-employed husband allegedly forcibly tied his wife to the bed with the help of the employees and later ordered the three men at gunpoint to rape his wife.
"While the three were raping the woman his 19-year-old son arrived at the house. Without any provocation, the husband shot him in the head and he died on the spot.
"The husband immediately fled the scene in his white Toyota Fortuner with registration number DCS 392 FS. The other three suspects also ran away and their whereabouts are unknown," Mulaudzi said.
The incident has angered the Commission for Gender Equality, which condemned the alleged happenings in the strongest possible terms.
Commission national spokesman Javu Baloyi said there was no amount of anger that could give any man the right to take the law into his own hands.
"This is a barbaric act and cannot not be be defended in any way," he said.
"Though we will allow the laws of the country to take its course without any interference, we appeal to the community to assist the police in bringing to book all those who are involved."
