Zimbabwe appeals SA court verdict to stop the sale of properties

The government has filed an urgent appeal against a South African Supreme Court of appeal judgment, giving former white Zimbabwean farmers the power to sell Zimbabwean government properties in that country.

Attorney General Johannes Tomana confirmed that the government has filed an appeal to the Constitutional Court of South Africa to stop the sale of all Zimbabwean properties owned by government in South Africa, as the ruling to confisticate properties was based on a ruling of the now defunct SADC Tribunal court, hence the South African court ruling in favour of the white farmers has no basis in the law of justice.

Tomana added that it is also strange for the South African court to go against the international law such as the Vienna Convention which stipulates that properties owned by any government mission in a foreign country is immune from being sold or attached by another country.

He noted that the ruling by the South African court in favour of the white farmers to attach Zimbabwe government properties casts doubt on the justice delivery system as it is still dominated by apartheid era and former Rhodesians judges whose agenda is to recolonise Africa.
