The looting of shops owned by foreign nationals spread to other areas in Soweto following a shooting incident in Snake Park, near Dobsonville, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
"Reports this morning [Wednesday] are that attacks on shops owned by foreign nationals spread overnight to areas such as Emdeni, Zola and Protea Glen," police spokesman Lt Kay Makhubela said.
Makhubela did not have further information on the overnight incidents.
Foreign nationals allegedly shot dead a teenager and injured another when a group of boys attempted to rob his shop on Monday.
The teenager died at the scene and the injured was taken to hospital.
The incident sparked violence in which foreign owned shops were looted and streets blockaded.
Twelve people were arrrested in Snake Park.
"Five of them, who are foreign nationals, were charged with illegal possession of firearms, seven community members were charged with public violence," Makhubela said.
The shopowners packed up and loaded their goods on vehicles. Police escorted them out of Snake Park.
Those arrested are expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court soon.
Two people were arrested in Jabulani, Soweto when they were found looting a shop owned by a foreign national, Gauteng police said on Wednesday.
"Two people were found looting a shop in Jabulani and are being detained at the Jabulani police station," said Lt Kay Makhubela.
