The University of Zimbabwe (UZ) will represent the country at the All African International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition which will be held in Arusha, Tanzania next month.

A team of students from UZ Faculty of Law beat their counterparts from Midlands State University in the 2013 National Moot Competition which was held at the High Court in Harare.

Speaking at a luncheon hosted for the two universities teams, Judge President, Justice George Chiweshe who presided over the contest said law students should research and debate International Humanitarian Law (IHL) to ensure people understand its relevance.

He said dissemination of information on IHL makes Zimbabweans aware of the existence of rules that protect civilians and other vulnerable groups in war situations.

The Head of the Harare Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC),  Mr Olivier    Dubois    said his organisation will continue to assist the Zimbabwean government in carrying out demining activities in border areas.

In the Moot Court Competition sponsored by the ICRC, students present arguments in a fictional manner at the International Criminal Court in the Hague
