British Embassy Harare is now inviting applications for the Chevening Scholarship for post graduate studies for academic year 2012/13. Read below for details or visit the British Embassy website.
What are Chevening Scholarships?
Chevening scholarships are British Government funded scholarships awarded for postgraduate study in the United Kingdom of up to twelve months. They are fully funded and cover course fees, a living allowance and a return airfare. The scholarships are administered by the British Council.
The scholarships enable talented young graduates and professionals from over 150 countries worldwide, with the drive and vision to become future leaders, to pursue their studies in the United Kingdom. The intention is that returning scholars use the skills and contacts gained in the United Kingdom to make an outstanding contribution in their field in their home countries. The programme also introduces scholars to a network of fellow future leaders and decision-makers.
Is Zimbabwe part of the programme?
Absolutely. Since Independence in 1980, the Chevening programme has allowed almost 200 Zimbabwean graduates and professionals to pursue postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom. The programme has included full scholarships, funded entirely by the British Government, and awards funded jointly with our partners Canon Collins Trust and The Beit Trust.
In 2011, we awarded five scholarships. The courses undertaken were New Media and Journalism; Banking and Finance; Conflict, Security and Development; Democracy and Governance; Media Management/International Journalism. The Universities attended were the University of Sussex, Stirling University, the University of London and the University of Manchester Business School.
There is also an active UK Alumni Association in Zimbabwe, where former Chevening scholars meet for social events or organise lectures and seminars.
