Mthwakazi Republic Party official Mehluli Dube has died. This was confirmed by the party president Mqondisi Moyo.
"It is with sorrow and grief that I announce the passing away of our Mthwakazi hero cde Mehluli Mthembo Dube. The information I gathered from the relatives, is that he passed away this morning in his rural home at Bhelingwe West under chief Bhankwe in Vugwe," he said .
"Mehluli has been unwell for sometime as he was done his first operation in SA during the course of the year in Johannesburg hospital. In October of this year, he left SA to come and recover from home under the watchful eye of his wife and relatives. Last month he was admitted to Gwanda hospital and later transfered to united Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) two weeks ago. He got admitted there, and another operation was done on him, when water was drained from his lungs."
He said Henry Dube and I visited cde Mehluli Mthembo Dube at his ward in Foresta where we met his wife and cousin brother cde Abednicho Mavuma Ndlovu.
"We all shared the family's hope that our dear cde was on the recovering path. The day after he got discharged they travelled to their rural home, but I had an opportunity to talk to him over the phone the very day. In our phone conversation i had promised him that we would shortly pay him a visit at his rural home, but alas nature has proven me wrong. Mehluli Mthembo Dube worked tirelessly for Mthwakazi and the party from the SA province. He is part of the group that demonstrated against Joice Mujuru sometime early this year at Mamelodi in Pretoria. He was a fearless cadre. The demonstration was meant to question Mujuru on the role played by her husband who was commander of the national army during the Gukurahundi massacres," he said.
"Indeed MRP and Mthwakazi at large have lost a dedicated cadre. My special thanks goes to cde Mthembo Dube's wife who tried all her best within her means to serve the life of her husband, I recall when she divulged to me how much had she spent in hospital bills and medication, unfortunately God has done his will. We are with you and the whole family in this time of mourning. Sithi malilale ngokuthula iqhawe, to cde Mthembo Dube i say, you played your part. We will continue to pursue the struggle on behalf of all our departed ones, till we meet through the grace of God."
"Our gratitude also goes to one Mthwakazi daughter who is a nurse at UBH, who took it upon herself to take care of Mthembu, in the absence of his wife who works outside of Bulawayo. Our further appreciation goes to our S.A. members who always paid Mehluli a visit in Johannesburg Hospital and all those who assisted financially and morally while in S.A. hospital."
