While addressing a huge gathering at the Bulawayo Amphitheater to celebrate International Women's Day on Thursday last week, Member of Parliament for Bulawayo Central Ms Dorcas Sibanda said men in Zimbabwe "have too much sex".
"Men here love sex a lot, they have it so many times and that's why we see condoms everywhere," she shouted over the microphone.
Ms Sibanda even suggested that men reduce the number of times they have sex, a statement that left elderly women who were at the gathering stunned as they could not believe the MP's guts to talk about such issues in a public place.
The MP said she had visited many public places and noticed the abundance of condoms, a sign that Zimbabwean men have too much sex.
"Everywhere I go there are condoms and many of them too but I have never seen sanitary pads in any toilets. Those who put the condoms should reduce their numbers and put sanitary pads instead," she said.
MP Sibanda said if the Government can subsidise condoms in hospitals and clinics, the same should be done on sanitary ware.
"Government should be in a position to subsidise pads since they can subsidise condoms. Men must limit sex," she added.
MDC-T legislators are notorious for using sexually charged innuendos while addressing public gatherings.
Matobo Senator Ms Sithembile Mlotshwa sent tongues wagging last year when she addressed the Senate saying men must have their sex drive reduced such that they have sex once a month so as to reduce the spread of HIV and Aids.
She also called for the castration of men to curb the pandemic.
Ms Thabitha Khumalo, the MP for Bulawayo East, has been on about legalising prostitution in the country saying it is a profession like any other and should be recognised.
She even mobilised 300 prostitutes to sign a petition on the decriminalisation of prostitution.
"It is here to stay and we should bite the bullet. Pleasure engineering did not begin in Bulawayo or Zimbabwe but in the Garden of Eden and one of those pleasure engineers was Eve," she was quoted saying.
She went on to say she was going to name and shame parliamentarians who seek the services of prostitutes if her campaign was not accepted.
These legislators have been castigated for lack of sound problem solving skills.
During the International Women's Day function, Ms Sibanda said girls in some areas were using dry cow dung as they were failing to access pads.
She said some were even using the core of maize cobs as tampons. Ms Sibanda blasted Government for failing to make available affordable sanitary ware yet Zimbabwe is a major grower of cotton.
"Government is failing to make available pads yet Zimbabwe is one of the best cotton growers in Africa," she said.
She said it was rather ironic that women and girls labour in cotton fields yet they are the same people who are failing to access sanitary ware.
She also suggested that girls who fall pregnant while they are in school should be given a chance to attain an education while the grandmothers remain with the babies.
Ms Sibanda said girls lose out when they fall pregnant while the boys continue with school.
