THE court ruling on journalist Hopewell Chin'ono's application for exception to the charge of incitement to commit public violence will be delivered tomorrow by Harare magistrate Vongai Guvuriro.

Chin'ono yesterday appeared before Guvuriro after his lawyers, Gift Mutisi, Beatrice Mtetwa and Douglas Coltart filed an application for exception to the charge, arguing that he had no case to answer.

He pleaded not guilty to incitement to participate in a gathering with intent to promote violence, breaches of peace or bigotry or alternatively incitement to commit public violence.

State prosecutors Whisper Mabhaudhi and Tendai Shonhayi allege that Chin'ono incited the public through his Twitter account to participate in public violence.

Last month, the High Court quashed charges levelled against him of communicating false information, saying that the law used to arrest him in January no longer existed.

Chin'ono, who has a large social media following, has been critical of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's rule, accusing his government of corruption.
