Drivers to collect discs from Zimpost

The Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) is in the final stages of decentralizing its services to all post offices across the country, where prospective drivers can now collect their license discs upon successfully completing driving competency tests.
In this new arrangement, aspiring drivers will need to specify a particular Zimpost post office from which they would like to collect their license discs after passing the driving test.
Zimpost will then notify the applicant about the availability of their disc through a text message.
Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development Permanent Secretary Engineer Theodius Chinyanga confirmed this development, stating, "The ministry is still in the process and final stages of completing the decentralization."
He further explained, "On application, a client is supposed to indicate their preferred Zimpost agency to collect their license from. Subsequently, when the license is ready, Zimpost notifies the client through text messages. For biometrics and driver's license applications, applicants visit their nearest VID depots."
Engineer Chinyanga also mentioned that the VID has made significant progress in clearing the backlog of 600,000 driver's licenses that had accumulated over the years.
He stated, "As for the professional driver's licenses, the ministry has managed to clear the backlog for 2019, and for the normal driver's licenses, we are through with January 2019 and have partly processed February to June 2019. The first preference is given to those who still have the certificate of competency, those who are currently going to the VID for the first time, and those who have lost their metal licenses."
It's worth noting that the Government recently introduced plastic driver's licenses to replace the old metal license discs. These plastic licenses are more secure, machine-scannable, and are being adopted in various Southern African Development Community countries.
