Zinara officials sign integrity pledges

Officials from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) today reaffirmed their commitment to fighting corruption by signing an integrity pledge in a ceremony held in Harare. The event, overseen by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc), saw participation from Zinara board members, led by chairperson Dr. George Manyaya, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Nkosinathi Ncube, and the secretariat.
The integrity pledge, a symbolic yet binding social contract, underscores Zinara's dedication to upholding transparency, ethical practices, and accountability in its operations.
A Groundbreaking Initiative
Zacc chairperson Mr. Michael Reza lauded the initiative, noting its historic significance.
"It is my distinct honour to address you today as we witness the dual signing of individual and corporate integrity pledges by the Zinara board and secretariat," said Mr. Reza.
"Zinara becomes the first organisation to sign the corporate integrity pledge, thereby building a legacy for itself. This move is critical for promoting honesty, financial discipline, and transparency in the public and private sectors, aligning with the constitutional mandate of Zacc under Section 255."
He further acknowledged Zinara's pivotal role in driving Zimbabwe's infrastructure goals under Vision 2030, emphasizing the need for integrity in achieving these national aspirations.
Commitment to Ethical Governance
Dr. George Manyaya, Zinara's board chairperson, reaffirmed the organisation's resolve to address past issues and embed integrity into its culture.
"In the past, Zinara faced challenges regarding mismanagement, inadequate oversight, and procurement irregularities, which undermined public trust," Dr. Manyaya said.
He highlighted steps taken to rebuild the organisation's reputation: Governance Reforms: Comprehensive reviews of organisational and governance structures to establish clear accountability. Corruption Prevention: Strengthening internal systems and implementing proactive anti-corruption measures. Transparency Practices: Embedding ethical conduct and integrity into decision-making processes.
"Our strategic thrust aligns with Vision 2030, aiming to establish Zinara as a well-managed fund for sustainable road infrastructure maintenance," he added.

Zinara, tasked with collecting, managing, and disbursing road user charges, plays a critical role in Zimbabwe's road infrastructure development and maintenance. With this pledge, the organisation seeks to restore confidence and ensure its operations contribute meaningfully to national progress.
