The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has forecast a delayed and erratic start to Zimbabwe's 2025/26 rainy season, urging farmers and stakeholders to prepare for initial dry conditions.

In its seasonal rainfall forecast for October-November-December (OND), MSD warned that rainfall is likely to be uneven in the early months, with prospects improving nationally from December. However, northern regions may experience a dry spell later in the season.

"A delayed, erratic start with initial dry conditions in October-November is expected, while prospects improve nationally from December onwards, though northern areas may dry out again later in the season," the statement reads.

The forecast also predicts temperature variations, with warmer-than-average conditions expected in October and November, followed by a cooler December.

Rainfall distribution is expected to vary across the country. The southern and western regions are likely to receive normal to above-normal rainfall during the first half of the season, while northern provinces may experience normal to below-normal precipitation.

The MSD said the forecast is crucial for farmers, agricultural planners, and other sectors to make informed decisions regarding planting, irrigation, and resource allocation.
