A 29-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man allegedly slapped his 45-year-old mother and punched her with clenched fists after she asked him about his whereabouts.
Bongani Ncube from Magwegwe suburb denied assaulting Polina Ncube when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso charged with physical abuse and malicious damage to property.
He was remanded in custody to August 5 for continuation of trial.
Prosecuting, Whatmore Tembo said Ncube assaulted his mother after she asked about his whereabouts on July 25 around 8AM.
"Ncube came home drunk in the morning and his mother asked why his behaviour had changed. He was offended by his mother's question and beat her with open hands and fists before she fell down," said Tembo.
"He also damaged his mother's room divider. His mother sustained a swollen face and a medical report was produced as evidence."
Ncube pleaded not guilty to physical abuse but admitted to malicious damage to property.
"I didn't beat her but I damaged her room divider only because of a misunderstanding that occurred between us," he said.
