THE 55-year-old police officer from Tshabalala Police Station who allegedly raped his three nieces is suspected to have gone on the run after failing to appear in court for trial.

Senior regional magistrate Trynos Utahwashe issued a warrant for his arrest this afternoon.

Paul Haisosvi is being accused of habitually sexually abusing his wife's sisters' teenaged daughters that he lived with, with his wife in a one-roomed house.

Haisosvi is said to have committed the sex crimes at Bulawayo's Tshabalala Police Station where he lived in the police camp.

The State alleges Haisosvi would wait until his wife fell asleep on the bed, before sneaking away to the floor to abuse the children.

The court heard Haisosvi started raping the minors in 2012, but the matter was only reported in March last year.

Haisosvi has been out of prison on $100 bail and his case has been referred to court a number of times.

He has always said he was innocent, alleging someone who did not like him was framing him to fix him.

Last year, he told a court he believed evil spirits were involved in persecuting him.

Haisosvi said whoever was framing him was good at the job because there was plenty of circumstantial evidence to suggest he could be guilty.
