A 46-year-old man, who struck his wife with an axe on the forehead after accusing her of ill-treating his mother, has been fined $200. Killian Tunha was fined last week on Tuesday by Mbare magistrate Ms Bianca Makwande.

In passing sentence, Ms Makwande considered that Tunha was a first offender and a family man but she also took into account that he committed a serious offence.

"The court cannot ignore that you used a weapon to commit the offence. However, a custodial sentence would be too harsh considering you were injured by the complainant," she said

Tunha pleaded for the court's leniency saying he had asked for forgiveness from his wife and they were working on their relationship. Facts are that on November 1 this year, Tunha arrived home late and started insulting Vimbai Mukaka for not taking care of his mother.

Tunha accused Mukaka of starving his elderly mother and went on to take an axe and struck Mukaka on the forehead.

Mukaka sustained a deep cut.

The matter was reported to police leading to Tunha's arrest.

Meanwhile, a 44-year-old businessman was arrested last week for allegedly drugging his employees and sodomising them on four different occasions, but he denies the charges.

He was arrested by police in Dzivarasekwa on charges of aggravated indecent assault.

Police confirmed the arrest.

It is alleged that on four different occasions, the businessman drugged the employee and sodomised him.

The employee reported the abuse to the police leading Livaditakis's arrest.

The businessman confirmed his arrest when The Herald sought his comment.
