Inspection of residential and business premises hampered by staff shortage

The Bulawayo City Council has indicated that its inspection of residential and business premises has continuously been hampered by the staff shortage in the local authority.
According to latest council minutes the Director of Health Services Zanele Hwalima reported that routine Inspection of Residential and Business Premises
continued to be hampered by critical staff shortages.
" However, urgent tasks like public health complaints, disease investigations and licence applications were being given priority. The following had been covered: 12 dog bite notices had been investigated, Strays 1, Vaccinated 8, Licenced 4, Kept in secure properties 8, Preparations were afoot to institute a dog tie up order, 5 malaria cases had been notified and investigated, 86.7 kg of uninspected pork and 2.5 kg oxtail that had gone bad was condemned and 121 boxes (12 trays x 30 eggs) each had been condemned," reads the minutes.
"Inspections had been carried out as usual, 23 intimation notices had been issued out and 16 deposit fines had been issued out. One hundred and ninety eight (198) food handlers from 92 food premises had been trained in health and hygiene. However, training for food carts food handlers was rescheduled
to a later date due to poor attendance."
