Opposition party leaders' pursuing useless agenda.

A political commentator Livingstone Masamba has accused opposition political parties of pursuing useless agendas while Zanu PF and President Robert Mugabe employed a cocktail of tactics to cling onto power at all cost.

Masamba said Mugabe has employed a cocktail of tactics to cling on to power ranging from intimidation to effective misinformation.

"One of the propaganda illusions that the rogue leader has adopted is peddling falsehoods that he is untouchable and he and his family will never leave Munhumutapa Offices and State House dead or alive," he said.

"Unfortunately, this kind of spin has stuck in the heads of many people and become so embedded that the many are indeed convinced that this overgrown Mugabe will be at State House as long as he wishes. People are so much swayed that no amount of their effort will ever remove Mugabe and his family from power. However, this is clearly imaginary, untrue and factually impaired as this man is neither immortal, invincible nor unbeatable in a fair election."

He said Mugabe has capitalised on this misinformation and managed to stay in power as many opposition supporters have chosen not to exercise their right to vote because they are well convinced that the process is a waste of time as Mugabe will go nowhere.

"Contrary, Mugabe's supporters have been voting for him overwhelmingly due to various reasons ranging from being bought with freebies or frog-marched to polling stations while opposition supporters chose to stay indoors or engage in some other activities," he said.

"Now we have opposition parties with their seemingly clueless leaders busy pursuing useless agendas of jostling for positions in an opposition coalition which will achieve nothing but embarrassing defeat at the hands of a tired and apparently disoriented and senile 94 year old Mugabe in 2018. Little known to these opposition leaders is that a coalition is not a guarantee that Mugabe will be defeated come 2018 but a raft of measures including enlightening the people that indeed the nonagenarian can be defeated through the ballot."

Masamba said as people approach 2018, opposition parties should among a hodgepodge of measures to creating a level playing field, be heavily involved in educating people that come 2018, Mugabe can definitely leave State House whether dead or alive and this can only be achieved if people exercise their right to vote.

"People need to be informed that Mugabe is not part of permanent structures at State House but can be sent packing to Zvimba through the ballot if only people go out in numbers to exercise their right to vote for a candidate of their choice rather than this clueless and useless Mugabe," he said.

"As the situation stands, just a coalition is not a guarantee for us to achieve the desired result of a new Government. As usual, many opposition supporters are not going to vote but Mugabe will make sure that his supporters turn-out at polling stations in their numbers guaranteeing him 50% + 1 vote that we will not even go for a re-run. Opposition parties even in their so many numbers need to abandon their current agenda of jostling for positions and get involved in effectively educating their supporters to vote for them in order for Mugabe not get the 50% + 1 vote."

He said in the event of such a scenario, the real opposition coalition leader will emerge uncontested as we will have a re-run between the leading to participating leaders. He said change can only be guaranteed this way.
