POLICE in Botswana have arrested another Zimbabwean who escaped from prison in the neighbouring country on Saturday.

This brings to four the number of inmates who have been apprehended after escaping from a jail in Francistown.

A manhunt was launched soon after the prison break in the neighbouring country for 15 Zimbabwean criminals, some of them dangerous, who had escaped after cutting the security fence at Gerald Estates Centre for illegal immigrants.  Three of them were arrested, a day after escaping from custody.

Botswana Prisons Services northern regional commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Sekano Sekano yesterday said one more fugitive had been arrested.

"We have arrested Godwin Mapunga Nyika, bringing the number of those arrested to four from those who escaped from prison on Saturday. Mapunga was arrested in Tutume Village.

"As the search continues, we hope that the rest of the escapees will all be back in prison soon as some of them are dangerous criminals," said Snr Asst Comm Sekano.

He said the 15 prisoners destroyed the security fence using a manhole lid before running into the bush.

Snr Asst Comm Sekano said the escapees were arrested for different crimes in Botswana, which include murder, robbery, and possession of ivory, housebreaking and theft.

Three inmates Mlindeli Moyo, Sicelo Sibanda and Methuli Sibanda were arrested on Sunday.
