Ex-CIO Tsvangirai advisor wins Zanu PF primary elections

Former CIO operative and special advisor to Morgan Tsvangirai, Pearson Mbalekwa has clinched Zanu PF sole ticket to stand as party candidate during Chiwundura by-elections.
Mbalekwa beat 20 other candidates during Monday primaries.
According to ZBC, he got 1511 votes.
The Nomination Court is set to sit on Friday next week to receive the nomination of candidates at the Magistrate's Court in Gweru.
President Robert Mugabe has since declared 15 July as the by-election date.
The Chiwundura seat fell vacant following the death of Kizito Chivamba who died after a short illness last month.
Mbalekwa, a former CIO operative ditched Zanu-PF in May on 2005 over the controversial Operation Murambatsvina that the United Nations estimates left 700, 000 families, homeless.
He joined MDC-T in 2007 as a special advisor to Tsvangirai and then moved up the ladder to the post of national security advisor after Dr Martin Rupiya unceremoniously quit.
Mbalekwa served in the CIO for 12 years.
