Mugabe gets special message from President Xi Jinping

The visiting Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Zhang Ming has paid a courtesy call on President Robert Mugabe where he delivered a special message from His Excellency President Xi Jinping.

Mr Ming briefed  the President on the status of various projects that China has undertaken with Zimbabwe in various sectors including energy, infrastructure and aviation, as well as China's commitment to enhance investment cooperation in key  sectors of the country's economy.

China also reaffirmed its commitment to increase market access for the country's agricultural products, while also stating that steps and measures were being undertaken to accelerate the implementation of various mega deals that were agreed during President Mugabe's visit to China in 2014 and the visit by China's President in 2015.

The two also discussed on the reform of the United Nations Security Council on which Zimbabwe and China are in full agreement and the correctness of the African common position as enunciated in the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.

It was recalled that during President Jinping's visit to Zimbabwe in 2015, he announced the cancellation of debts owed to China by Zimbabwe.

President Mugabe expressed Zimbabwe's profound gratitude for this fraternal gesture, which reflected the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

Zimbabwe's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and the Chinese Vice Minister have since signed the protocol formalising the cancellation of the debts.
