President Robert Mugabe has invoked his presidential powers to save Chitungwiza Town Council's attached property from auction.
The development was announced in an extra-ordinary government gazette today.
Meanwhile the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Saviour Kasukuwere has suspended Chitungwiza Town Clerk, Mr George Makunde over allegations of maladministration which saw the council's property being attached over a $66 million debt.
Minister Kasukuwere said Makunde will appear before a disciplinary committee to answer allegations of maladministration.
Makunde's suspension follows that of all councillors over disregard of corporate governance which has seen the local authority swimming in huge debts.
In a bid to save the council from total collapse, a caretaker council led by Mr Pawadyira Madzudzo is currently running the affairs at the council until a lasting solution is in place.
