NOTORIOUS Avenues hooker Yeukai Tsandukwa and two of her accomplices, Sharon Lianda and Gamuchirai Musviki, yesterday got a reprieve when a Harare magistrate ruled to have then removed on remand.

The trio is facing robbery charges and their case will proceed by way of summons.

The State, led by prosecutor Tatenda Murindagomo, had applied for the trio to be remanded further to October 11, saying police was investigating other accomplices who had been issued with warrants of arrest after defaulting court proceedings.

Magistrate Tildah Mazhande urged the State to consider the time the accused had spent in remand custody, suggesting if the State can push for separate trials.

The prosecutor submitted the State will establish the possibility of a separate trial date on October 11 hoping police would have arrested those issued with warrants of arrest.

"We seek to have separate trials when police establish the whereabouts of those that have been issued with warrants of arrest. They have been defaulting proceedings," said Murindagomo.

Before passing her ruling, magistrate Mazhande told the State to consider the time the trio had spent in remand custody.

"There is need to consider the time the trio has spent in prison. You have been remanding them without furnishing them with any trial date.

"As a result, the court hereby removes the accused on remand and the State will proceed by way of summons," ruled the magistrate.
