Government parastatal TelOne which is on a massive rebranding exercise, is set to launch its new pre-paid voice bundles and Wi-Fi home and away service amidst revelations that mobile calls are to be reduced from 16 cents to 4 cents per minute.
The development is part of a cock-tail of measures being put in place by TelOne as part of its greater efforts to regain lost market share in the communications sector.
This was revealed by the telecommunications giant Managing Director, Chipo Mtasa during the TelOne Voice Bundle and Wi-Fi Home and Away service launch's media brief that was held in the capital this morning.
"TelOne will be launching two new products namely pre-paid voice bundles and Wi-Fi home and way service. Pre-paid voice bundles will see voice calls being cut down by more than 80 per cent.
"On net-call will go down from 5 cents to 1 cent per minute and mobile calls down from 16 cents to 4 cents per minute," said Mrs Mutasa.
Mrs Mtasa said "the pre-paid voice bundle will only be available for pre-paid residential clients only and will mainly benefit those who are migrating to pre-paid voice in a drive to promote pre-paid voice up-take across the country."
Mrs Mtasa said her organisation was looking at repositioning itself to become a competent player in the communication industry through latest world class technologies in pursuance of gaining lost ground in the communication sector.
"TelOne is transforming itself to be well on course in making itself a competitive company that is not protected by monopoly laws. In the past two weeks, we commissioned a link between Beitbridge and Bulawayo.
"This will factor in, the cost and convenience benefitting our customers. TelOne is now well positioned for the future. The dream is to connect everybody, everywhere in Zimbabwe by 2020," said Mrs Mtasa.
