Newly appointed Minister of State for Masvingo Province Josiah Hungwe has openly said that Zanu-PF will use the Zimbabwe Defence Forces when campaigning in next year's harmonised elections.

Hungwe who previously served as the Minister of Psychomotor Skills under former president Emmerson Mnangagwa told the Masvingo Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting that Zanu-PF would not leave the soldiers when campaigning. Hungwe is quoted by Tell Zimbabwe as saying:

"In the Bible, the Kings ruled with the army on their side. Saka patinoenda ku2018 elections musasiya soja. (Zanu PF) Chairman, soja apa imi mberi. (When we campaign in 2018, do not leave the army. We will move side by side with the military).

Hungwe also claimed that the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) General Constantino Chiwenga was in the Bible, as the hero who fights for the people.

"President Mnangagwa with the help of the army managed to dislodge the enemy which has been shutting us out all along. With the help of Gen Chiwenga, all the enemies retreated and we are going to rebuild the Walls of Jerusalem.

"Our President Mnangagwa said there will be gnashing of teeth in the end. General Chiwenga varimo muBhaibheri ndivo vaya vanopindira kana vanhu voramba nezvinhu zvevanhu (Gen Chiwenga is there in the Bible and he fights for the people)."
