Zanu PF, MDC-T urged to investigate operations of Employment council

The Harare Residents Trust (HRT) is urging the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (ZANU PF) and the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) who are running the Harare City Council to institute full investigations into the operations of the Employment Council for Harare City Council Undertaking from July 2013 up to date.
The HRT said it believes that this has been the vehicle through which illegal and unsustainable commitments have been developed through the collusion of Councillors and senior Council management.
"There are currently 10 Zanu PF Councillors, 34 MDC-T Councillors and one independent Councillor in Harare with one vacancy following the death of an MDCT Councillor recently. The HRT strongly believes that once the extravagant activities being undertaken through the Employment Council are halted, Harare City Council will emerge stronger than it is currently. Councillors serving on the Employment Council are some of the richest in Harare and the officials involved are reportedly some of the most powerful in Council business, hence most other Councillors become like puppets serving at the pleasure of these powerful forces ruining Harare through their elitist deals, despite the deteriorating economic conditions in Zimbabwe," said the trust.
"The Government of President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa needs to invest more time in unpacking the real situation obtaining in Harare City Council if they are serious about fighting corruption in its purest form. The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission might be interested in their findings there."
"Whenever we interview officials in the City of Harare and some disgruntled Councillors, they keep pointing at how some of the Councillors abuse their power and positions at the Employment Council, at Caravan Park and at City Parking where they have managed to do as they please, taking advantage of the strategic business units, strategically established during the Dr Tendai Mahachi era where these entities serve as conduits for looting of public resources."
