A FORT Rixon man in Matabeleland South has been arrested for allegedly defrauding three villagers of over $1 000 claiming the money was meant to facilitate the release of their jailed relatives.
Nation Masuku (39) was not asked to plead to fraud charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Franklin Mkhwananzi on Tuesday.
The magistrate remanded him out of custody to March 21 on $200 bail.
Masuku allegedly committed the offences between January 18 and 28 this year by claiming he would help the villagers to bribe a judge so as to facilitate the release of their relatives.
The villagers only realised they had been conned after they went to Khami Prison to check if their relatives had been released. They then reported to the police, leading to Masuku's arrest.
