A fake e-mail is making rounds on social media, claiming that Econet Wireless founder and Executive Chairman, Dr Strive Masiyiwa has called for a Press Conference tomorrow.

A media invitation is doing the rounds informing journalists of a press conference at which business mogul Masiyiwa is to launch a new political party, United Democratic Movement (UDM).

The press conference is said to have been called for by South African based businessman Mutumwa Mawere, it reads in part, "Agenda: Notifying the nation of the coming in of business mogul Strive Masiyiwa into the country's politics as president of United Movement for Democracy Party. Speakers: UMD Party Secretary General, Aaron Muzungu and;: Mutumwa Mawere."

In 2017, Masiyiwa put to rest speculation touting him as a possible 2018 presidential candidate saying he has no political ambitions.

Social media reports had suggested that Mr Masiyiwa, among other top businessmen who include James Makamba, Antony Mandiwanza and Calisto Jokonya, was one of the individuals some alleged disgruntled war veterans were backing to contest the presidential election in 2018.

Masiyiwa many times has shot down these claims on him having any political ambitions.

In 2017, writing on Facebook, Mr Masiyiwa said he had never harboured any political ambitions.

In July 2017, Econet Wireless distanced Mr Masiyiwa from a fake facebook account, liberty party, which had been posting messages and statements of a political nature.

In a statement, Econet Wireless assured stakeholders that Mr Masiyiwa did not have any links with the account.

South Africa based businessman Mutumwa Mawere who is also listed as a speaker dismissed the e-mail as "fake new."

Stuart Ziwewe twitted that @StriveMasiyiwa has always brushed aside prospects of getting into politics. He is very popular though and it would be interesting if he comes in.
