Businessman's wife awaits High Court trial date

The wife of the late Harare businessman MacCloud Mapanga, appeared in court yesterday for routine remand.

Bridget Makaza who is accused of shooting her husband over a marital dispute stood in the dock before Harare magistrate Rumbidzai Mugwagwa.

The matter was rolled over to July 10 for a trial date at the High Court.

Allegations are that on May 14, around 3 am, Makaza took advantage that her husband was asleep and shot him on the neck as well as the shoulder after Mapanga had married another wife.

After the offence, Makaza screamed raising alarm and feigned armed robbery alleging that her husband had been killed by armed robbers.

In the midst of confusion when people were responding to the false alarm, she drove from the scene and threw away the firearm that she had used in Mukuvisi River.

According to the State, after concealing the firearm she then proceeded to the police where she reported that her husband had been shot by armed robbers.

Makaza was initially helping police with investigations but after interrogations it came to light that she was responsible for the death of her husband before being arrested and subsequent appearence in court facing murder charges.
