A Harare magistrate yesterday heard that Gathrie Chiredzero, 40, who is facing charges of breaching President ED Mnangagwa's security and found in possession of an alleged fake driver's licence, was never in his lifetime licenced to drive motor vehicles.
The State led by Michael Reza led its chief evidence through Dambudzo Juma, the Deputy Registrar Licences from the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) who told the court that the accused "is a holder of a fake Zimbabwe driver's licence".
"The accused is a holder of a fake Zimbabwe driver's licence. The licence he claims is his with licence number 75600AM was issued to one Robert Martin on June 4, 2003.
"According to our records, Chiredzero has never been licenced to drive motor vehicles. We do not have cases of duplication of licence numbers," said Juma.
Juma also furnished the court with a register of licences issued nationally during the period Chiredzero alleged he got his purported licence.
The lawyer representing the accused, Rumbidzai Venge, however asked the court for time to check on the authenticity of documents produced by the State's evidence.
The matter was postponed to July 6 for continuation by the State's consent for Venge to be allowed access to CVR documents to check on their authenticity.
Chiredzero is facing charges of possession of offensive weapons at public gatherings, impersonating public officials and forgery.
The matter is before magistrate Yeukai Chigodora.
