The wife of a Mutare City councillor will appear in court next Thusday on allegations of stealing panties and bras belonging to another councillor whom she suspected of having an affair with her husband.

Portia Makina - who is married to Ward Five councillor, Clr Morgan Chipare, was arrested by the police in Sakubva last Wednesday on theft charges after she allegedly confisticated a bag belonging to Ward Two councillor, Clr Pamela Mutare, which shje found in her husband's vehicle. Both councillors are from MDC-T.

Makina, who suspected that her husband was having an affair with his colleague, refused to handover the bag after Clr Mutare had visited their house to claim her property. Makina's argument was how did the bag get into her husband vehicle, and in the absence of a satisfactory answer, she confisticated the bag in a bid to fix Clr Mutare. The bag was only returned following police intervention.

When she was finally given hjer bag back, Clr Mutare alleged that an assortment of goods including four bras, three female pants, two pairs of socks, four body tops, two satchels and two pairs of shoes were missing. The officer-in-charge at Sakubva Police Station, Chief Inspector John Simon, confirmed the case. He said the police preferred a theft charge againt Makina over the nmissing items.

She was subsequently arrested and spent the night in cells before she was taken to court the fiollowing morning. Police detectives investigating the case revealed that when she was quizzed how her bag found its way into Clr Chipare's vehicle. Clr Mutare said she bumped into him at the Sakubva Flea Market while doing her shopping. She then put her bag into his vehicle for safe keeping with the intention of taking it back later after finishing her shopping.

However, it is alleged that Clr Chipare drove home with the bag and his wife found it. A brawl allegedly erupted between the couple as Makina wanted an explanation from her husband concerning the bag. They quarreled and Clr Chipare later revealed that the bag belonged to Clr Mutare. When the issue was still hot, Clr Mutare made a follow up to Clr Chipare's residence with the intention of claiming her bag querying why it ended up in her husband's vehicle.

She suspected that the two were seeing each other. Clr Mutare reported the matter to the police who intervened and she got the bag, but with the alleged missing items.
