The Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe, in collaboration with MISA-Zimbabwe, will hold the inaugural Bornwell Chakaodza Memorial Lecture at the Ambassador Hotel, Rainbow Room on Wednesday 02, May 2012. The Memorial Lecture will begin at 12:00 pm.
The Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Tsvangirai's former personal assistant and now MDC Director of Information, T William Bango.
The Inaugural Bornwell Chakaodza Memorial Lecture is named in memory of seasoned and deeply respected journalist Bornwell Chakaodza, who was the deputy chairperson of the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe Board.
Following Chakaodza's untimely death early this year, VMCZ instituted the annual memorial lectures in his honour in which leading media professionals and academics will be invited to speak generally about his shared vision.
The memorial lecture will be held annually in remembrance of Chakaodza's immense contribution to freedom of expression, his efforts to promote professionalism in the media and his tireless work to advance the principle of media self regulation in Zimbabwe.
Chakaodza wrote extensively on media freedom issues and advocated for the continued improvement of journalists working conditions in Zimbabwe while constructively criticising cases of unprofessionalism in media circles.
