MDC PRESS STATEMENT
The MDC joins all workers and the nation in celebrating the Workers Day. As we celebrate this day, we take time to reflect on the important and treasured contribution of the workers to the national economic development and struggle for freedom in our country. As a party we value the sacrifices of the workers towards the achievement of these and other positive goals.
The MDC believes that the struggles of the working class are intertwined with the struggle for a just and a fair Zimbabwe. Our quest for a society built on justice and fairness is inspired by the extraordinary works of the likes of Benjamin Burombo, Jason Ziyapapha Moyo and Gibson Sibanda amongst many other gallant trade unionists and champions of the fight for people's emancipation.
Our movement remains critically aware of the challenges faced by most of our nation's workers who toil on a daily basis for a grinding existence, our mothers and fathers in the rural areas who toil and sweat on the land only to remain steeped in an endless cycle of poverty. It is for them all that we are in the trenches fighting for a just and fair Zimbabwe where resources are distributed for the benefit of all citizens and where workers earn salaries which enable them to live a dignified life.
The MDC believes that the absence of sincere engagement with the workers in government decision making processes deprives the nation of the best ideas that will bring positive change to our economic circumstances. We therefore on this day demand the resumption of the Tripartite Negotiating Forum. We are convinced that only through honest engagement can the national economic woes we face be abated.
In our commitment to better the lives of all Zimbabweans, as a party we have deployed in government our best workers. These workers that have excellently contributed in their ministries and state organs to positively change the lives of the people of Zimbabwe. Their great works are a testimony of our promise and commitment to deliver a better life for all.
