Daily News reports that battle lines have been drawn between various influential groups in the Midlands Province as bigwigs are teaming up to prop up their proxies in the Zanu PF DCC polls.
It's reported that minister July Moyo and Larry Mavhima have teamed up while State Security minister Owen Ncube is said to be fronting another group opposed to Moyo and Mavhima.
Ncube is alleged to have roped in former Mines deputy minister Fred Moyo to counterbalance the Moyo-Mavhima camp especially in Zvishavane and Shurugwi.
Zanu PF secretary for security Lovemore Matuke confirmed receiving several complaints of alleged interference but observed that it was not restricted to the Midlands only but to all the provinces.
Meanwhile, fissures within Zanu PF continue to widen as power struggles intensify ahead of the reintroduced district co-ordinating committees (DCCs) elections, with some provincial members seething with anger after being sidelined on factional lines.
The provincial members are threatening to lodge their complaints with the politburo as the deadline for the selection approaches.
Elections in all the provinces should be concluded by tomorrow. At its last meeting, the politburo resolved to refer for screening thousands of curriculum vitaes for candidates keen to stand for various DCC positions.
The ruling party is expected to hold DCC elections in eight of the 10 provinces by the weekend. Elections in Harare and Bulawayo have already been conducted. The polls were marred by violence and irregularities.
