Excessive drinking of illicit beer called soldier whiskey killed a Mount Darwin man Rumbirai Chizhowezha (45) on Monday morning.
Mashonaland Central deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the case.
"I can confirm a sudden death case in Mount Darwin where a man died after consuming too much alcohol on Monday," Dhliwayo said.
Witnesses said the now deceased Chizhowezha was staying alone and decided to visit his son Lloyd Game under the influence of soldier whiskey.
"Chizhowezha died at his son's homestead around 3am where he had visited him under the influence of soldier whiskey," said the source.
"The son tried to rush him to the hospital after he became unconscious but he died along the way."
Police warned people from supplying harmful liquids and urged people not to drink illicit beer.
