03 Jun 2021 at 12:12hrs | Views
Women in mining are now living in fear at Mudhindo and places surrounding Guruve where machete gangs have resurfaced in search of the precious stone.
Zimbabwe Mining Federation (ZMF) Mashonaland Central province secretary for women affairs Chipo Salome Muzulu called for stiffer measures to curb machete wielding gangs.
"As women in mining we are concerned with machete gangs who have resurfaced in Guruve and we are now living in fear since this is a male dominated industry we also want to operate freely without fear of being harrased and victimized," Muzulu said.
Muzulu said they are behind "Chikorokoza Ngachipere" operation.
"We rally behind the chokorokoza ngachipere operation we urge men since some of them like these machete gangsters are causing havoc in the industry so I am urging them once again to desist from this hooliganism and do formal mining," she added
We are on the road map of achieving the 2023 12 billion target as well as the vision 2030, such acts will hinder government's efforts and target towards the betterment and empowering the black majority."
"May Government and law enforcement agencies to take stiff measures to stop this barbaric act."
Meanwhile, local leaders in Mudhindo convened a stakeholders meeting yesterday to strategize how to deal with machete gangs.
