NGO in deal with Binga RDC

A non-governmental organization (NGO) Basilizwi Trust has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Binga Rural District Council, a development which will enable it to mobilise resources to assist the local authority in various developmental programmes.
Basilizwi Trust Director Christopher Mwembe confirmed the developments adding that the current MoU was much empowering to them.
"We would have to keep on renewing it here and there. Well it's not the same as not having one," Mwembe said.
Mwembe said they had been struggling to get the MoU with the council since 2019 and the document was meant to give guidance on what they would be working on as an NGO with the council and it is also used by sponsors to channel funds to them.
Mwembe said NGOs needed to have one but acquiring the MoU in Binga had become a very cumbersome task.
He said they had spent the whole of 2019 working without the document and it was a problem to them because some of the sponsors required the MoU to fund them.
Mwembe said the council had once told them to register as a Private Voluntary Organization hence they were not comfortable doing that as they wanted to remain as a Trust.
He said failure to produce the document negatively affected their financial status and it would be difficult to support the Binga district on developmental projects.
Binga RDC Chief Executive Officer Joshua Muzamba was not reachable for comment when contacted.
