Less privileged families in Muzarabani South were privileged to receive over 90 000 road runner chicks from their Member of Parliament Tapera Saizi during this Covid 19 lockdown period.
The Member of Parliament has set up a training poultry team being led by party women's league members Mable Karichi and Aines Kasambara.
The team has trained 15 wards out of 17 and the remaining two are set to be trained this week before receiving their chicks.
Speaking to Bulawayo24.com the soft spoken MP said he was empowering people in his constituency after seeing that the lockdown had impacted heavily on them.
"Having observed that the current lockdown was impacting heavily on the less privileged in my constituency l decided to form a team that moves around all wards training the less privileged families and giving them road runners for them to be occupied in a project rather than just sitting idle," Saizi said.
"These chicks will go away in assisting these families both economically and socially they can sell and get income or they can eat as relish so we are hoping that no one will starve in this covid 19 era with this poultry project so have I have distributed 90 000 chicks I am expecting to give more to the remaining two ward."
The trainers said they are facing challenges with adults who take time to study the cycle but they are patient with them.
"A major challenge is coming from the elderly who take time to master our teachings but we are very patient with them because we really want this project to be a success," Karichi said.
Another trainer Kasambarara said farmers in Muzarabani need to take note of the change of weather as it affects their chicks.
"We are urging our farmers to take note of the change of weather since both winter and summer affects chicks so we are on the drive in impacting knowledge to our farmers in this constituency.
However, Honourable Saizi is rolling out many developmental projects in his marginalized constituency.
