Robbers get away with US$25 000

FIVE armed robbers raided a company in Kadoma and went away with US$25 000 cash while another group of criminals got away with 130kg of gold trapping carbons worth US$62 000 after raiding Atlas 16 Gold Mine, as armed robberies spike.
In Kadoma the five, who were armed with four pistols, attacked nine people at Sonking Resources last Friday at around 2230hours before they tied them with shoelaces.
One of the victims was shot in the armpit during the robbery.
National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
"The ZRP is investigating a robbery case which occurred on December 10, 2021 at about 2230hrs, where five unknown suspects who were armed with four unidentified pistols pounced at Sonking Resources, Kadoma and attacked nine complainants who reside at the company premises.
"The suspects tied the complainants with shoe laces and shot one of the complainants on the armpit while demanding cash. They ransacked the offices and stole a CCTV saver, a Samsung cellphone and US$25 000 cash," he said.
Investigations are in progress.
In a related incident, police are investigating another case of robbery which occurred at Atlas 16 Gold, Mine last Wednesday at about 0300hrs.
Eight armed robbers who were armed with knives and iron bars attacked two security guards who were on duty at the mine and tied them with barbed wire before proceeding to a gold carbon room where they stole 130kg of gold carbon worth approximately US$62 000.
In another case, police in Bulawayo are investigating a robbery incident where a truck driver was robbed of property worth US$1 440 after a breakdown at Umguza Bridge, along Harare-Bulawayo Road last Wednesday.
Last week, a security guard was found dead in unclear circumstances at St Augustine Mission in Penhalonga after two thieves entered the school premise before they fled following a shootout with a policeman who was guarding Zimbabwe School Examination Council (Zimsec) examination material.
The incident occurred at around 0200hrs and police have since launched investigations into the case.
It is reported that the two thieves entered the school premises before they went to the science laboratory block before they were confronted by the policeman.
A shootout resulted, before the two fled from the scene. The body of the security guard was later discovered and it was taken to a hospital mortuary for post mortem.
The incident occurred on December 9, 2021 at about 0200hrs when the two unknown men entered the school premises and went to the science laboratory block.
The suspects escaped after a shoot-out incident with a police officer who was guarding 2021 Zimsec examination material.
