War Veterans Association in Mashonaland Central province have petitioned the Politiburo for an ZANU PF provincial election rerun in Guruve and Mbire districts where they suspect the yet to be confirmed chairman Kazembe Kazembe rigged to retain his post.
The tightly contested race was between Kazembe and Businessman Tafadzwa Musarara.
In a petition seen by Bulawayo24.com the war veterans recommend that elections be rerun if the party was to avoid voter apathy in the coming presidential elections.
"RECOMMENDATION.Considering the foregoing, and in the interest of protecting the people's voice, we hereby strongly recommend that these elections be re-run especially in the most affected districts like Guruve and Mbire. Ignoring this level of system abuse will have a negative impact on futureelections. Our people will obviously shun elections as they perceive the processes to be worthless. We will suffer voter apathy that can impact even on national elections and obviously hamper our efforts to garner a minimum of 5 million votes for 2023. Already this is coming on top of perennial disgruntlements over the way the current administration has been doing business that resulted in failure to unite out people and rally them behind the party leadership. In any case, how do we hope to successfully run this province under these circumstances? Its always much easier to lead people who respect us than to force people to respect us.We pray that our observations and recommendation will be given due consideration," reads part of the petition.
However, Musarara has urged his supporters through a letter to remain peaceful, respectful and patient as party internal processes happen.
