The Matabeleland South Agricultural Show Society has announced plans to extend the duration of the exhibition from three to four days in response to exhibitor feedback.
According to Thabani Mkhwananzi, the show society's secretary, they have acknowledged concerns from the business community about the limited exhibition period. The move is in line with the National Association of Agricultural Show Society of Zimbabwe's efforts to standardize show durations across the country.
In the future, the first day of the show will be exclusively dedicated to the business community, with the remaining days open to the public.
Agritex agronomist for Matabeleland South province, Innocent Nyathi, advised farmers to reduce maize production and shift their focus to small grains due to the region's low rainfall pattern.
Colet Moyo, the chairperson of the Gwanda United Residents Association, expressed excitement about the show's impact on the community. More young people are attending to learn farming techniques from experienced farmers, contributing to the show's positive atmosphere. Moyo emphasized the importance of marketing the show to attract investments and promote local agriculture.
