Zimbabwe's uniformed forces urged to remain patriotic

Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army, Lieutenant-General Anselem Sanyatwe, has urged uniformed forces to remain steadfast, patriotic, and loyal in fulfilling their constitutional duty of defending the nation's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Lt-General Sanyatwe made these remarks while presiding over the command exchange of Harare District Garrison between Colonels Andrew Kabaira and Richard Mapanda at Charles Gumbo Barracks in Harare last week.
He emphasized that discipline and patriotism are fundamental to the ZNA's success in achieving its goals.
"During this handover and takeover parade, I urge you to fully support your commanders to help them achieve their visions. In your various roles, remember that commanders are assigned to lead you; therefore, discipline, loyalty, and dedication to duty are crucial," he stated.
Regarding the command exchange, Lt-General Sanyatwe noted that such rotations are standard practice within the ZNA, aligning with the organization's overall staffing needs.
"These changes expose officers to diverse situations, fostering their development into versatile leaders capable of managing the evolving demands of the military profession," he explained.
On the topic of service conditions, Lt-General Sanyatwe assured that the Government is actively seeking lasting solutions.
"Ladies and gentlemen, as Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army, I acknowledge the challenges we face both as a nation and within the defense forces. This is a temporary phase, and we must remain focused as a professional army. I am addressing these challenges, and all raised issues are being acted upon," he said.
Colonel Mapanda, upon assuming command of Harare District Garrison, pledged to maintain an open-door policy to address pertinent issues affecting the garrison.
"Peace and tranquility are essential for creating an environment conducive to economic activity, as the nation strives to achieve an upper-middle-income economy by 2030," he added.
Colonel Kabaira, in his farewell speech, expressed his honor at having had the opportunity to command one of the ZNA's prestigious formations.
