Prominent Zimbabwean tenderprenuer Wicknel Chivayo has pledged a life-changing donation to former ZBC Radio DJ Simon "Pashoma" Ncube, who has been living in destitute conditions. In a heartfelt statement shared on his social media account, Chivayo announced his intention to provide financial and material support to the ailing broadcasting legend.
Chivayo, moved by a viral video showing Ncube on crutches and in visibly challenging circumstances, highlighted the injustice of Ncube's plight. "To now see him living in despair, without the pension he rightfully earned, is both painful and deplorable," Chivayo wrote, describing Ncube as a household name who played a significant role in the lives of Zimbabweans during his tenure at ZBC Radio 2 (now Radio Zimbabwe).
The businessman attributed part of his decision to assist Ncube to their shared roots in Chikomba West, Chivhu. He also linked Ncube's struggles to the broader economic impact of sanctions on Zimbabwe, which he believes have crippled pension systems and the economy at large.
Chivayo detailed a robust assistance package for Ncube, emphasizing its focus on empowering him to rebuild his life. A cash donation of USD $20,000. Mobility and a single-cab truck worth $15,000 to facilitate farming activities and transportation. Chivayo directed Ncube to meet with his lawyer, Sikhumbuzo Mpofu of Munangate and Associates, to finalize the arrangements.
Chivayo expressed regret that he could not personally hand over the resources, citing his current business trip to Paris. Nevertheless, he encouraged Ncube to use the support wisely to improve his livelihood and enhance productivity on his land, which he noted was acquired through the government's land reform program.
A Tribute to Leadership
In his statement, Chivayo underscored his admiration for President Emmerson Mnangagwa, crediting the leader's visionary policies for empowering indigenous Zimbabweans. Chivayo said Ncube's acknowledgment of the president's role in the land reform program further solidified his commitment to assist.
"May this gesture serve as a reminder of the importance of unity, productivity, and empowerment as we honor the vision of our beloved president and strive for a better Zimbabwe," Chivayo concluded.
