Aspiring Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president, Nqobile Magwizi, took an important step in his election campaign over the weekend by meeting with the ZIFA Central Region councillors. The meeting marked a key moment for Magwizi as he seeks to understand the expectations of key stakeholders in the football community ahead of the upcoming elections.

During the interface, Magwizi expressed his appreciation for the insights shared by the councillors, emphasizing the importance of having a well-informed manifesto. He acknowledged that in order to create an impactful campaign platform, it is crucial to understand the issues that are affecting football at the grassroots level.

"I had an amazing time hearing what the expectations of the councilors are because as we are working on the manifesto, it is important to have a manifesto knowing what the issues on the ground are," Magwizi said after the meeting. "Hence the need to engage with the councilors and gather what their expectations are because those issues will shape the manifesto that I will present provided I am fortunate to be included in the final candidates to compete in the elections."

The ZIFA elections are fast approaching, with the nomination process closing on December 11. All candidates who have submitted their nominations will undergo an integrity test, which serves as the final step in certifying candidates for the upcoming elections. Magwizi is among the contenders vying for the presidency, alongside other notable figures such as Marshall Gore, Themba Mliswa, Gilbert Muponda, Farai Jere, and Walter Magaya.

Magwizi, widely known for his role in securing the Sakunda sponsorship deal for Dynamos and Highlanders, has also been active in other aspects of Zimbabwean football. He has served as a board member for the Northern Region Division One football club, Banket Mine Football Club, since 2017. In addition, he is overseeing the installation of bucket seats in the National Sports Stadium, a project that aims to improve the stadium's facilities.

As the election process continues to unfold, Magwizi's engagement with ZIFA councillors marks a significant step in his efforts to understand the needs of the football community and shape his campaign accordingly. His focus on grassroots input suggests a strategy aimed at addressing the issues that matter most to those involved in Zimbabwe's football landscape.
