President Mnangagwa has issued a stern warning to senior Zanu-PF members accused of using social media to sow divisions, create discord, and confuse the party's membership. Addressing the 380th session of the Politburo in Harare yesterday, the President called for unity, discipline, and adherence to party principles.
"At this stage of our political development and with the maturity of our revolutionary party, it is disheartening to note the unbecoming levels of mud-slinging and other counter-revolutionary tendencies, including broadcasting party issues on social media," said President Mnangagwa.
He emphasized that such behavior would not be tolerated, adding, "Vari kuzviita cherai chikomba" (those doing this should stop).
To address the growing misuse of social platforms, the President announced the drafting of a social media policy to guide party members on appropriate communication practices. He urged members to use party structures and organs to resolve issues instead of airing grievances online.
"Prudence must be exercised in the execution of our duties and rights as members through the use of appropriate principal organs and structures of the party," said President Mnangagwa.
He called on party leaders to foster unity, harmony, and love while upholding the values of Zanu-PF as outlined in Articles 6 and 7 of its constitution.
The President expressed optimism about the party's ability to maintain the development momentum leading into 2025. He praised Zimbabwe's progress across various sectors despite challenges such as illegal sanctions.
"Our national development philosophy, Nyika inovakwa, inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo/Ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi balo, is now embedded nationally, in the mindsets of our people," he said.
Recent milestones include commissioning the Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe Road, expanding Varun Beverages, and launching the US$1 billion Titan New Energy Plant.
President Mnangagwa commended party members for their contributions throughout the year, particularly in implementing development projects. He also praised the Hebert Chitepo School of Ideology for its efforts to train Youth League members in collaboration with the Julius Nyerere School of Leadership.
The President extended condolences to Mozambique and Malawi following Tropical Cyclone Chido and led the Politburo in observing a minute of silence for former Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko.
As the year ends, President Mnangagwa wished Zimbabweans a happy Unity Day, Christmas, and New Year. He urged party members to embrace the spirit of servant leadership as they continue building a prosperous Zimbabwe.
