Tshabangu labels suspension a 'sideshow, null, void'

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) self-proclaimed interim secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu, has dismissed his suspension from the party as a "sideshow" and null and void.

On Thursday, acting CCC president Welshman Ncube suspended Tshabangu barely hours after the High Court ruled that he did not have the power to make changes in Parliament.

In his suspension letter, Ncube stated that Tshabangu's actions had put the party into disrepute, citing breaches of the party's constitution and authority. Ncube alleged that Tshabangu had made decisions without the authority of the national standing committee, executive committee, or council, in defiance of the party's leadership structures.

"In or about the months of November/December 2024, you have made and/or purported to make changes and decisions on behalf of the party without my authority or the authority of any organ of the party and communicating such decisions to State institutions in breach of the party's constitution and rules," Ncube wrote.

However, Tshabangu, through his spokesperson Nqobizitha Mlilo, has claimed that the leader has not received any suspension letter from Ncube.

"Senator Tshabangu has not received any suspension letter from Professor Ncube. It would be strange if it were to happen," Mlilo said.

He argued that the term of office for party structures, as outlined in Article 6 of the party's constitution, had expired and a solution is being sought. Mlilo emphasized that suspensions of party members are not within the president's or acting president's authority.

"This can only be done by a determined focus on nation-building, and finding national consensus on things as Zimbabweans," Mlilo said.

Additionally, he noted that Ncube's term as acting president had expired, making his suspension decision invalid.

"Is Ncube still legally the President of the party? An emphatic no! His term of office is over and cannot suspend anyone," he said.

Meanwhile, the dispute continued to escalate with Ncube's spokesperson, Willias Madzimure, dismissing the faction led by Jameson Timba, who claimed to be the interim leader of CCC.

"The CCC has noted with concern a statement issued by Jameson Timba, in which he purported to be the interim party leader and chief administrator of the CCC party," Madzimure said.

"There is no position of party leader and administrator under the CCC party constitution. Welshman Ncube remains the acting president," he added.

Madzimure reiterated that Nelson Chamisa resigned as CCC president over a year ago and was replaced by Welshman Ncube, whose position has been confirmed by the latest High Court ruling.
