Zanu-PF, 'sellout' CCC MPs back Mnangagwa's leadership beyond 2028?

Legislators from both the ruling Zanu-PF and opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) have endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa's leadership, agreeing that he should remain at the helm of the country beyond 2028 to maintain Zimbabwe's current development trajectory.
The rare show of unity came during a tour of the First Family's highly productive Pricabe Farm in Kwekwe, where lawmakers were impressed by the President's agricultural efforts and his leadership.
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Mr. Sengezo Tshabangu, expressed his support for President Mnangagwa's continued tenure, saying: "If we approve your stay in power and the people of Zimbabwe are happy, let it be."
Zanu-PF's Deputy Political Commissar, Webster Shamu, echoed the sentiment, stating that legislators across the political divide were united in calling for the President to extend his leadership.
"Rambai muripo 2030. Vana [the MPs] vachema kwatikubva uko kuti rambai muchitonga [The MPs are pleading for your continued leadership beyond 2028]," said Shamu.
Mr. Tshabangu commended the President for leading by example and called for unity among Zimbabweans.
"We are Zimbabweans, we should be singing together, playing together, celebrating together. Criticism improves us as Zimbabweans, and when we go to Parliament, I can assure you that we are going to unpack the blueprint to bring the people of Zimbabwe together," said Tshabangu.
He praised the First Family's farming operations as a symbol of the productive potential Zimbabwe can achieve, adding: "If we can have this kind of production in this country, then we will be able to grow and improve the food basket of our nation."
CCC proportional representation MP Dr. Thokozani Khupe lauded President Mnangagwa's leadership, urging Zimbabweans to separate politics from development.
"What we have seen at the President's farm is proof that Zimbabwe can restore its status as the Breadbasket of Africa. Development is not rocket science; it's about learning from others, and the President is doing very well," said Dr. Khupe.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Owen Ncube, and Zanu-PF Chief Whip Pupurai Togarepi also added their voices, emphasizing the importance of President Mnangagwa's leadership in driving national progress.
"As a province, we continue to call for your continued stay as President beyond 2030," said Minister Ncube.
Togarepi noted that legislators were eager to learn from the First Family's agricultural initiatives, which demonstrate innovation and productivity in farming.
The visit highlighted the First Family's commitment to advancing food security and economic growth through agriculture. Legislators from both parties agreed that unity and collaboration were essential to achieving Zimbabwe's development goals.
