SADC chairperson and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has returned home from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he attended the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU). This year's summit, held under the theme "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations," brought together African leaders to discuss issues of historical injustices, economic development, and regional cooperation.
On the sidelines of the summit, Mnangagwa formally introduced Dr. Samuel Maimbo, a Zambian national, as the joint candidate for the African Development Bank (AfDB) presidency, representing both the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). Maimbo, a former World Bank executive, is vying to succeed outgoing AfDB President Akinwumi Adesina in elections scheduled for May.
During his visit, Mnangagwa also held several bilateral meetings with fellow African leaders, strengthening Zimbabwe’s diplomatic and economic ties within the continent.
On his arrival at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, he was welcomed by Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, along with senior government officials and service chiefs.
